Termites

Hey guys, I just want to share this with you all. This morning when I woke up, my parents were cleaning up their room, actually it was only my mum, my dad was getting ready to go to work. As my mum was clearing up, she opened the top cupboard and behold, there were termites within the books. My mum wasn't the type that would scream and all, however, after seeing the termites, she did admit that she has goosebumps. It was really a huge army.

If you think one cupboard is affected, you are wrong, the termites had two nests in two of our top cupboards, not only that, the second cupboard was the worst hit. At the side of the cupboard, the termites were building a nest within some books as shown in the figure below.

The books were so hard to take out because of the nest. My dad was requested to stay at home to sort out the paperworks that he had kept all these years because my mum wouldn't want to throw away his "important" old documents. These were some of his books. Like I said earlier, this is the sight that gave my mum goosebumps. I told the liberty to help her push out the books. And what I saw after that would made girls scream I think. There were millions and millions of termites. They were crawling everywhere. I must admit that this is my first time I am encountering this. Below is how it looks when all the books were taken out. Although you can't really see the termites running around, they were like everywhere.

After all the books were taken care of, I then proceed to spray Becky's favourite weapon, the insect repellent. Right now, even as I am writing this, the cupboards are all empty and cleaned up. Kudos to my mum for doing what my dad wouldn't even think of doing. Haha...

For *cough* and people who have problems n in need of encouragement

this post is specially for people who are facing problems each day and feeling stress about it.

Coincidentially, this is today's bible verse from my daily bible verse.

So i wanna share that

Every problem is an opportunity to trust God.

We all experience difficulties, problems, and trials throughout life. usually, we also look for ways to solve those problems. All of the various solutions basically ask one of these two questions, "What can I do to solve this?" or, "What can God do to solve this?"

In other words, we either try to solve the problem on our own, or we let God solve it. obviously, it is much wiser to give your problems to God lah.

Therefore, in the midst of your problem, Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding (Proverbs 3:5). Trust God to solve your problems. Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD, the LORD, is the Rock eternal (Isaiah 26:4).

Furthermore, when you truly trust in God, there is nothing to worry about. Jesus said, "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me" (John 14:1).

Make this your cry: "Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God" (Psalm 20:7).

Trust the Lord God Almighty in every area of your life, even during problems, because every problem gives you an opportunity to trust God.

And to those who are stress and needs encouragement, you can use philippians 4:6 and so on. Ya so i shared this. Actually this is a conversation of me and becky..haha..

so the verse say

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. "....next verse..."and the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

Becky said: so from that verse above,it basically means whether it is stress or someone makes u angry or something...we should present all these things to God in prayer..and then the peace of God will come...you see, by allowing anger to come in, we are allowing the devil to use us to react in not so good ways..therefore show love..because God is love...so... pray and ask God for the peace so that we can guard our hearts and our minds with Christ likeness

This is what I've learnt from Becky and I thank her for that.

Derek's Reflection

Reflection on the movie “Facing The Giants”

Well so here i am reflecting on the show facing the giants. It is the 2nd time i am watching the movie and it never failes to touch and inspire me. I really enjoyed the show and i am glad that i can share my thoughts through the 3,2,1 method. So one word to describe the movie “Inspiring”.

3 scenes that i enjoyed

Definitely the scene where they did the death crawl.

Why? Isn’t that scene encouraging and motivating! It really showed us that we can actually do more than we think we can achieve. For example in the show the coach blindfolded the football player asking him to do the death crawl. He thinks he can only go 50 yards but in reality he crawl through the entire field. It made me realise that when we say “I give up”, it is because of our comfort zone. By not focussing on our comfort zone, we can actually do a lot more than we think.  By looking at obstacles we give up easily or when we think we can reach our goal easily we will not put in our 100% effort  so sometimes we should blindfold ourselves mentally, put in our 100% best effort and you will be amaze at what we can achieve. So i learnt “NEVER GIVE UP”.

The scene where the father who was wheeled-chaired stood up and supported his son by standing at the goal post encouraging his son to take the final kick. many times we can relate this scene to our lives. We often get a lot of pressure from people in our school, family , workplace . like in school parents want us to do well academically and in the workplace we put pressure on ourselves to climb the career ladder. It is not wrong but many a times we need someone to encourage us and motivated us to overcome the pressure. In the show before he kick the ball he always denies his ability, like ,”i cant kick it , it is too far” or “why me?if i miss every one will blame me” sometimes we put unnecessary pressure on ourselves.  We have God with us and as the verse say with God with us who can be against us. God is like the father in the show encouraging us and motivating us to overcome any pressure we have. I felt very touched during that scene it showed me how much the father loved his child.

The last scene i enjoyed is the scene where the coach received the truck. It tells me that if we follow God’s direction he will provide for us. If God ask us to do something he will always provide for us but we have to prepare the fields for the rain so that God can bless us. In the show the coach keep wondering why his team could not win and why God is not helping them, the reason is because GOD IS NOT IN THE PICTURE. So many times in life we blame God about events in our lives like why we fail our exams or why we cannot do well in our workplace or why God never answer our prayers. We blame God many times not knowing it is actually us that prevents God from blessing us. Did we put God in the picture, did we give God all the praise when we did well. Many times we take for granted the blessings God gives us and we blame God for the bad things that happen to us. It is in our human nature to remember bad things or events that happen to us but forget the good things that happen to us. So in conclusion for this scene always put God in the picture and give him all the glory and he will bless us bountifully.

2 things i have learnt from the movie

As Christians we should feel compelled to give everything that we do our best effort. Or rather as Grant Taylor the coach comes to realize, do your best so that you can give glory to God, not to yourself. And sometimes you have to push yourself and even go through some pain in order to do that. Striving for the goal that God has set for us is never supposed to be easy,God puts these things in our lives to build us up, not to win some prize. God never says if you become my child i will make your life smooth sailing, if thats the case Christianity becomes a magic formula for success in life rather than God is the one in control of our lives.Winning is a secondary thing... but we are still suppose to run the race to win all the same. Many times we think winning is everything but who lets us win it is God, so we should give God all the glory and not think it is us that achieve them.

Another thing i have learnt is how the movie is being made. Did you know that the movie is not made in Hollywood but rather it was shot in Georgia, and almost the whole crew is made up of entirely local crew and local actors. Bet u did not know that! it proves if you want to produce a top-quality movie, you don't have to go to Hollywood to get it made. The acting in Facing the Giants is as good as any coming out of Hollywood and  the fact that these are ordinary people makes Facing the Giants all the more honest and convincing. I mean acting is easy,we do them almost everyweek in MKC we are all actors  and the behind the scenes stuff isn't too hard either, so  give everyone a shot or chance to prove their worth. Doesn’t mean expensive stuff are good and high quality, cheap and affordable things are as good or better than the expensive and branded stuff. So in conclusion do not underestimate a person’s worth as he can prove you wrong. Also as this is a Christian show i believe God has bless the making of these show to be as good as any Hollywood show, so if God’s in the picture, he will bless you bountifully.

1 thing I can apply

Trust in God no matter what the circumstances are and praise him whether we fail or succeed. In the show the coach and players bless and prayed to God whether they won or lost the game. As i have said earlier winning is secondary but praising and thanking God is primary. We should bless and thank God whether we fail in life. It is easy to bless God when we are doing well but when we are in our bad times , it is hard to praise God we will always blame God and question him. So i can apply this in my life. Praise God no matter what the situation is.

Worry

hi everybody! it's the weekend. (yay!)
exams are coming. (BOO...)
but those of you who are worrying...
i just want to share with you my week.
perhaps it could be a form of encouragement.

This week is a very important week for most people in hall (hostel) because it is the week we run for elections to be in the JCRC (exco committee). I know what you all are thinking. Exco only ma. big meh?! Honestly, I wouldn't have cared if we didn't need it to continue staying in hostel the following years.

This is how it works. Hall works on "CCA" points accumulation and the cut off point is 52. So to get into hall for year 2 you must have at least 5 "CCAs" to get that kind of points. It is split into 3 categories, culture, sports and committees. Because I'm not in any culture(didn't have time to go for audits), and not in any sports(fat mah=]), so i have to join comms.

why would anyone want to stay in hall?
1. It's near school.
2. Food is provided.
3. Hall is fun!

Monday night
I ran for chairperson (chairperson gets the most points, cos only chairperson is in EXCO) of hall deco and creative arts.

the interviewer was irritating.
(halfway through the interview)
him: what happens if you don't get this post?
me: run for other positions?
him: ok. looks like i'll be seeing you again.
me: -_____-''' (BIG HINT)

It came to the point where i was spacing out and praying a miracle would happen. I didn't get the post la, so i was quite upset. "die la... can't stay in hall liao HOWWWW...."

Tuesday
Still spacing out. My day had been horrible too because I didn't really like the lessons for that day.

Tuesday Night
Called Nathaniel to complain (u all know who he is right...).
His advise: You are not happy with a lot of things and it is affecting the way you do other things. You never really accepted the setback....It would be better if you weigh the importance and divide your emotions carefully.

I was very very very very very very angry with him! I mean. To me hall was important. I wanted very very very very very badly to stay!!!!! So i scolded him and told him it was rubbish.

(EH WAIT. I KNOW IT WAS MY FAULT THINKING THAT WAY, BUT THE STORY HAVEN'T FINISH!!!!!!! GIRLS HAVE THEIR MOODS YOU KNOW.)

so anyway, that night we had block CG and I was just talking to God again (until my sis interrupted me) and I came upon this verse.

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
John 14: 27

yeaaa. I found out that nat was trying to tell me that that wasn't like all my life is about. The one thing that I didn't have was peace and I worried too much. I was also too scared to like move on (cos self esteem crushed).

Prayed about it again and asked God on what to do next.

Wednesday

Applied for vice-chair, same comm. This time had about 5 people competing with me... was nervous...

GUESS WHAT.
it was the same interviewer.
n he said the same thing. -____-

just that this time he put in the word maybe, and I got the post. yay!!!

i was really happy. really really happy.
I got into another comm too, but as a member. waiting for other comm results.

end of story!
Don't worry too much ok, guys and gals!
Matt 6: 27(NCV) says "You cannot add any time to your life by worrying about it."
hehe. so don't worry, be happy!

I know it's hard, but try.

signing off,
A happy ruth!

MoVie rEflEctIon bY deI3b!e

3 Scenes that I liked, it can be three things too

- the father and son relationship, where the son pluck up his courage to apologise to his dad
- the coach(main actor) receiving a call that the other team was disqualified because of some reasons which I forgot what it was because I have stm.. :D…n his team gets to be in the playoff
- when the nurse went up to the coach’s wife to tell her that she was pregnant
(I like the 2nd n 3rd scenes because it shows me how God was able to turn situations around.)
- there’s no harm in sharing few more scenes rite??hahaha..erm..i also like the scene where the coach went to the field and he saw groups of people confessing their sins to one another..
- the time when the coach was blessed with a truck

Anyway the movie was fantastic! :D

2 Things that I learnt

- P.U.S.H (Pray Until Something Happens) God hears our prayers and will answer them when the time is right. In the mean time,we should continue to press on and pray. The revival in the sch was one gd eg…
- With God,all things are possible!

1 Lesson which I can apply

- always honor/praise God in all situations,be it good or bad

Gentle Reminder

GENTLE REMINDER!!!

Facing 'MY' Giants

OK..Isa here
first time posting here
requested by BECKY LIM

The movie was darn nice! It evoked so many different emotions. Facing the Giants definitely push me in the direction of fully surrendering myself to Christ. Despite that, I feel that something is missing. It seems like I am wasting talents and living my life in disobedience to God, despite any visible sin.

I myself is ‘Facing MY Giants’ with lots and lots of problem..financial, in turmoil with parents, personal HEHE..

ANYWAYS…

3 scenes that I like

When the 2 assistant coaches trying hard to so call ‘fool’ the coach.

J.T. Hawkins Jr.: By the way, some man called lookin' for you today.
Grant Taylor: Who?
J.T. Hawkins Jr.: Stan Schultz.
Grant Taylor: Stan Schultz?
J.T. Hawkins Jr.: Yeah.
Brady Owens: Stan Schultz - isn't that a cartoonist?
Grant Taylor: That's *Charles* Schultz.
J.T. Hawkins Jr.: No, I thought Charles Schultz was that man that flew across the ocean in "The Spirit of St. Andrews."
Grant Taylor: That's Charles Lindbergh, and it's "The Spirit of St. Louis."
Brady Owens: Naw, Lindbergh is a cheese!
Grant Taylor: Limburger's the cheese. Lindbergh's the man.
J.T. Hawkins Jr.: No, Lindbergh was that blimp that blew up and killed all them people.
Grant Taylor: That's the Hindenburg.
Brady Owens: Nah, Hindenburg's where you go skiing in Tennessee. Grant Taylor: That's Gatlinburg!
J.T. Hawkins Jr.: Gatlinburg? You mean like the country music group, the Gatlinburg Brothers?
Grant Taylor: [throws ball] Crazy.

HAHAX

FROM THE NET.

Secondly, the assistant coach who use scriptures to teach the guy to kick ball.

And lastly..erm..ok next

I learnt that

1. With God, nothing is impossible.

2. The potential of surrendering your own self in the midst of any crisis is the only thing that can resolve serious and life destroying issues.

1 lesson that I can apply
Well, We can all be hero in small ways. None of us are perfect but with faith we can all be extraordinary.

Slumber

Reflection

Facing the giants was a good movie and super touching... I was tearing most of the time. Yes, God can indeed to the impossible, amen?

For me, the thing which touched me the most and most applicable in my life is when the husband asked the wife,"If God does not give us children, will you still love Him?"

Many times in our lives, we are faced with difficulties and circumstances which can move us or even question God. I mean, I have to admit, it was really very dampening to see events after events happened in the guy's life. Sad... But after all that he has been through, it indeed takes courage to say, "God, no matter what, I will still love You."

Events like these, did happen in my life last year, if I have a chance I will share it with you guys. But anyway, God puts us through all these kind of test or obstacles so that Christ can shine through us. I mean look at the guy, when He started trusting God and telling God, here I am use me. God gave him the wisdom and used him as a tool to bring revival into the school, to even impact the lives of his players. The parents stood in awe too.

Wow!!! I really stand in awe. One more thing guys, a lot of times, we just take things as a coincidence in our lives but if we pray and ask God to open our eyes to see the work He is doing, will these things be more than a mere coincidence?

movie reflection

THINS I LIKED
1.when the crippled father stood up for his son...very touching
2.When the new kicker kicked a 51 yard ball(if i'm not wrong)
3.The death crawl
THINGS I LEARNT
1.God can do anything that seems impossible
2.We have to get the field ready for the rain...i don't know how to say it but i get it
HOW CAN I APPLY THIS MOVIE TO MY LIFE
sometimes, when i just want this something,i pray so hard but it never happens....after watching this show,i realised it could have been the least amount of faith i put in and now i am trying my very best to have the faith and get my field ready for the harvest.

Facing the Giants

Hey Youth,

I hope you guys enjoyed the movie. I cried during a few scenes. It really spoke to my heart.

Anyway, just to recap what your blog should be about:

3 Scenes that you liked, it can be three things too
2 Things that you learnt
1 Lesson which you can apply

We'll be discussing this next week during youth service. So, do post something alright?

Looking forward to reading all your posts..

Good luck for the exams,

Take care

Samuel

Movie Reflection

The movie was great and there were good and encouraging scences, I give the movie 5/5. :)

Well, I may not have 3 things to share or something but 1 very important thing I learnt from that movie was that in all situations, we should put our faith in God and no matter what the situation turns out, good or bad, we should always praise God and honour him. Our faith is therefore very important

Just some thoughts for you guys to ponder, how many of you have the faith to believe that God has everything under control? How many times have we blame God when things do not go our way? Saying is easy, but can you actually believe that you are in this world for a purpose?

What is the purpose of you being on this earth?? Can you answer that????

Dicky

Reflections bout' facing the Giants + random by Ruth

firstly, the colour orange and blue is seriously weird!!! becky lim!!!
errr... maybe i just have different err.. perspective?

anyway, the show.
3 things that I liked:
  1. how it emphasises parent-child relationship, and how the child actually took the first step to apologise.
  2. how it constantly reminds me to honor God in all I do. Win or Lose.
  3. the old man's faith in praying for a revival, and it happened!
  4. I like the jokes! (esp the part where he used the verse to tell the guy to hit the ball in the center of the poles!) so that's 4 things ok?

2 things that I learnt (is that correct?):

  1. having BIG faith and a right mindset really helps!!!
  2. working in a team is a lot more helpful than working alone.

1 thing that I can apply:

  • Learn to trust in God to provide for me.
