Journey of Faith: Our Heart Matters

As I was sitting doing my devotion, these few words came to me  "Our Heart Matters". Yes, indeed our heart matters to God especially when we are in an emotional turmoil, it's hard to find rest and peace in God. We are sometimes hurriedly trying to find something to solve that emotional emptiness or that void or something to cheer us up.

I remember when my dad passed away, there was this emptiness in me. I turned to playing UNO with Ben. And in turn, my brother thought that I didn't care about what was happening. All I wanted was to just run or forget about it but you know what, God said, "Be still and know that I am God."

I was reading somewhere that said, "In our heart, there's a place for God. But do you know that in God's heart, there's a place for us?" I marvel at the fact that God really cares for me.

Psalm 139

For the director of music. Of David. A psalm.

You have searched me, Lord,

    and you know me.

You know when I sit and when I rise;

    you perceive my thoughts from afar.

You discern my going out and my lying down;
    you are familiar with all my ways.
Before a word is on my tongue
    you, Lord, know it completely.
You hem me in behind and before,
    and you lay your hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
    too lofty for me to attain.
Where can I go from your Spirit?

    Where can I flee from your presence?

If I go up to the heavens, you are there;

    if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.

If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
    if I settle on the far side of the sea,
10
even there your hand will guide me,
    your right hand will hold me fast.
11
If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me
    and the light become night around me,”
12
even the darkness will not be dark to you;
    the night will shine like the day,
    for darkness is as light to you.
13
For you created my inmost being;

    you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
14
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;

    your works are wonderful,

    I know that full well.
15
My frame was not hidden from you
    when I was made in the secret place,
    when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
16
Your eyes saw my unformed body;
    all the days ordained for me were written in your book
    before one of them came to be.
17
How precious to me are your thoughts,[a] God!
    How vast is the sum of them!
18
Were I to count them,
    they would outnumber the grains of sand
    when I awake, I am still with you.

Amazing isn't it? God knows everything about us.

That's why our hearts matter so much to God. He wants us to guard our hearts for it is the wellspring of life. (Proverbs 4:23). He loves us so much that He wants to fill us with His everlasting peace, love and even speak to us. We just need to learn to find rest in God. Just like how Mary sat in front Jesus feet and listened to Him. Jesus said, "She has chosen the better." Let's choose the better like Mary.

Luke 12:34, "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."

Journey of Faith:- Obedience is better than sacrifice

We should all still be in Genesis reading about Abraham. As said in the previous post that Abraham was a man of faith. Amazingly at work yesterday, my boss shared with us during a company devotion about Abraham. I am definitely 100% sure this is something God wants me and of course each one of you to work on - 'The Journey of Faith'.

My boss also shared that Abraham was a man of faith is because He obeyed God. Having faith is one thing but acting out is another. We can say we believe in God but how does that believe show in our daily lives?

1 Samuel 15:22 'Does The Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as obeying the voice of the Lord? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fats of rams.'

Let's take today's devotion- a great story of obedience. In Genesis 22, Abraham was suppose to sacrifice his one and only son Isaac. In our logical mindset, who on earth would want me to sacrifice my kid? The best part is God promised this son to Abraham but yet God now wants to take Isaac away. In the midst of it, I can only imagine how much pain Abraham must be in but the faith he had in God and to even obey at that moment is something that I find in hard to fathom sometimes. Can you even imagine what Isaac was feeling or how he was reacting at that moment? The poor kid...

And so just as Abraham was about to take a knife and kill his son, an angel came to the rescue. The angel said that because Abraham feared the Lord and has not withheld anything including his son (for Abraham knew that whatever the Lord gives, He can also take it away), because Abraham obeyed, God swore that the covenant he made with Abraham will be fulfilled. Abraham will not only have descendants like the stars in the sky but countless as the sand on the seashore.

Our obedience to God doesn't need to be something so big and dramatic as this. It might be something small. Each time you feel a tugging in your heart, I encourage you to have faith, obey and surrender to God. After all, we really have nothing to lose by taking that step of faith and obeying God. Yes, it may not be something that you want to do but remember that God will never fail us. Let the word or whatever God has spoken to you be like seeds that fall on good soil. Let it produce a great and abundant harvest :)

A Journey Of Faith

Food for thought for 2013.

During my devotion yesterday (Genesis 12-14), as many of us know it's about Abram or later known as Abraham. Abram never fails to amaze me because of the amount of faith that he had in God. He could not live to see the promise that God is going to fulfill through him but yet he believed and chose to walk the journey with God.

FAITH- Heb 11:1 "Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen, it gives us assurance about things we cannot see." Later on in Heb 11: 8-19 Abram was mentioned about all his acts of faith.

As we walk the journey in 2013, we will face many trials, questions, life-challenges even questions about who we are and where does God want me to be? God, why me? Why now? Why isn't there an answer from You? Why do I feel so overwhelmed with such emotions? Why do I have to make such choices? Sometimes the choices that we have to make may not be pleasing to you but pleasing to God.

But there will be joy as there is always victory in Jesus!!!!! :)

As we cling on to our faithful God, there are many promises in the bible where God will always be there for us so be encouraged as we walk on this journey of faith with God. We may not feel it or things may not go your way but God will never fail us. As you walk on this journey of faith, may the Lord increase your hunger and love for Him. As you surrender your life to Him, may His heartbeat and mystery be revealed to you.

It's going to be an exciting journey because God has so many things installed for each and everyone of us. Believe and trust in who God is. Remember that His plans are higher than ours and so are His ways. In every moment, cling, hold on to God and every promise He has said in the bible.
